Cook It

If you thought growing the potatoes was fun, wait until you’ve tried some of these delicious recipes! Each recipe is written in a straightforward style suitable for most pupils between 5-11 years.

The recipes are a basic guide and can be adapted to suit all tastes… and imaginations! Each recipe tells you what equipment is needed, a list of ingredients, how to prepare and cook the dish and then leaves the eating up to you!

Here are some interesting ideas for ‘cook it’ lessons:

  • Using the recipe for a baked potato, how many different toppings can you think of? For instance: cucumber and tuna, baked beans and bacon or anchovies and chickpeas. Make a selection of favourite toppings and take a vote for the best topping.

  • After reading and experimenting with the recipes, why not try and devise a recipe using the potato as the main ingredient? The recipe should be suitable for pupils between 5-11 years to prepare, cook and eat, using ingredients that can be found in most households. Why not discuss which recipe is considered the healthiest option and what makes it a healthy choice?
