The Grow Your Own Potatoes project is a simple, convenient and fun way to support primary teaching on:
It is a flexible hands-on activity that can be as big or small as suits you. Centered on growing a potato plant – it is as simple as a large pot in the playground or on the windowsill.
This year we have a record number of schools taking part in Grow Your Own Potatoes - the equivalent of 300,000 school children, and next year we hope even more schools will join in. Register now to reserve your free growing kit containing seed potatoes, a new interactive height chart and other goodies.
The Grow Your Own Potatoes project supports the curriculum, providing lots of interesting teaching ideas. There is detailed guidance on every stage; including factsheets and video clips and the popular Potato Cam allows you to compare you’re plants progress with a plant being grown by Potato Council experts. There is additional support available on our offers of help page if you would like to organise a farm visit or even organise for a local farmer to visit your school.
All schools that take part will be able to download a certificate and can join in the challenge to grow the biggest weight of potatoes from the seed potatoes we provide; there is the chance to win a digital camera and runners up prizes of gardening equipment vouchers.
